Originally organized by the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. in 1816 as the Board of Missions; name changed by the Old School assembly to Board of Domestic Missions in 1855; at the reunion of the Old and New School assemblies, the Board of Home Missions was established by merging the Board of Domestic Missions [O.S.] with the Presbyterian Committee on Home Missions [N.S.] in 1870, and incorporated in 1872.
